Old Schoolhouse may also refer to the building at Jenis Royal Academy.

The Old Schoolhouse is a mysterious building located on the grounds of Thors Military Academy in Trista, Erebonia.

Trails of Cold Steel[]

Background[]

After the War of the Lions, Emperor Dreichels established Thors Military Academy in Trista, ordering the construction of the Old Schoolhouse. However, the structure under the schoolhouse itself has been present since the Dark Ages.

In later March S.1204, Rean Schwarzer arrived at the academy and during orientation was made to explore the basement of the schoolhouse together with the rest of Class VII to test their abilities with the ARCUS. Afterwards, the underground began changing layouts, with Principal Vandyck asking Rean to investigate. Since then, a new floor appeared each month until October.

In July, after Class VII explored the fourth floor, Elise Schwarzer, following Celine, entered the schoolhouse and descended to the fourth floor, where a large door opened and revealed Ol-Gadia, a giant knight used as a trial. Rean, Crow Armbrust and Patrick T. Hyarms rescued Elise and managed to defeat Ol-Gadia.

In October, there seemed to be no new floor to the schoolhouse, prompting Principal Vandyck to declare the investigation officially finished. On the night of the first day of the school festival, a bell chime was heard across Trista and the building was suddenly surrounded by a mystical impenetrable barrier. Alerted, the school staff initially decided to cancel the festival until further investigation, but Class VII intervened to hopefully restore the schoolhouse to normal in time. With their ARCUS bonds allowing them to cross the barrier, they descended to the newly uncovered seventh floor.

Instead of a normal floor, they found a portal leading to the Realm of the Great Shadow, a separate space full of contraptions and monsters. At the end, they were faced with a door and the second trial for the chosen Awakener, Rean. Together with the rest of Class VII, they were transported to the Otherworldly Battlefield, where they faced Loa Erebonius, a shadow of the Great Power. After defeating it, they found themselves in the schoolhouse again, where Rean was presented with the name of Valimar and a dormant giant knight.

A week later, being faced with a Panzer Soldat invasion by the Noble Alliance, Rean summoned Valimar from the Old Schoolhouse to defend Trista, but was defeated by Ordine, another Divine Knight piloted by Crow.

After the end of the Erebonian Civil War, tremors emerged around the Old Schoolhouse. When Rean, Valimar, Class VII and the others arrived to investigate, they discovered that the interior of the building had transformed into the Reverie Corridor.

Valimar informed them that the underground area was built by the Gnomes to seal him and serve as trial grounds for his Awakener, using their most advanced technologies. The Reverie Corridor is an alternate area housing the Shadow Trial of Loa Luciferia, which was not meant to be used but due to the appearance of the Infernal Castle, was brought forward in place of the Realm of the Great Shadow.
